FZN cross country team member Seth Gleason recently set a new school record in a 5K race when he completed the 3.1 mile course at FZN’s Twilight Meet in a blistering 16:05. The previous record of 16:08, set by 2010 FZN graduate Jake Benton, had held for 10 years. The Twilight Meet, held on September 7th, was run under the lights at O’Fallon’s Pheasant Run golf course. It was the first race of it’s kind in the state of Missouri. The cool conditions boosted Gleason’s effort. Gleason, who entered the meet as FZN’s top returning runner with hopes of breaking his personal record of 16:30, had this to say about the race, “It was a very fun race. I felt strong throughout.” “I hadn’t given it (the school record) much though. I just hoped to break 16:30.” FZN Head Cross Country Coach, Josh Janisse, had this to say about Gleason, “When a runner runs fast, you see the time and think they are fast. What you don’t see is all the hours spent running, eating healthy, getting quality sleep and focusing on recovery. Seth had a breakthrough moment running a 16:05 showing that his dedication is paying off in big ways!” Gleason finished 9th at the Twilight Meet, a race that featured some of the state’s top runners. He followed up the Twilight race with a 1st place finish at the Forest Park Festival held last weekend. Gleason has aspirations to break the 16:00 barrier in the future. His stated goal is to compete at the state championships held in November.
