Winter Sports Update

Girls Swimming

The Lady "Swimcats" are off to one of their best season on record as the team currently stands at 11 - 2 on the dual meet season! The Panthers finished 2nd at the FZN Invitational and won district "bragging" rights by winning the "Zumwalt" Quad. A number of individuals swimmers have met state consideration times already this season. Those individuals include:

Gwen Raziq (50 free, 200 free, 100 backstroke, 500 free)

Averi Meade (50 free, 100 free)

Sydney Kelsey (50 free, 100 breaststroke)

The Panthers will wrap up their regular season portion of their schedule on January 30th when they host district rival Fort Zumwalt South at the Rec-Plex. The meet begins at 3:30 pm and will have a ceremony honoring the team's senior members following the diving portion of the meet.

Wrestling

The #Matcats finished the dual meet portion of their season with an 8 - 6 record. The Panthers have been led by the trio of Teddy Hickey, Logan Prinster, and Derrick Buda-Smith. Prinster claimed the lone individual title for the Panthers at the GAC conference meet held early this month. Hickey and Buda-Smith finished at runner-ups. Hickey (3rd) and Buda-Smith (6th) also earned medals at the highly regarded Francis Howell "Thrasher" Invitational held last weekend. Hickey, a four-year varsity team member, surpassed the 100 win mark for his career earlier this season. The boy will compete in the District tournament at Holt the weekend of February 8th and 9th. The top four finishers at each weight class will advance to the State Championships held on the campus at the University of Missouri.

The girls wrestling team went undefeated in dual competition this season and have been led by a the trio of Zoe Santa-Cruz, Amanda Medina-Martinez, and Kennedy Cox. All three have earned medals at multiple meets this season. Santa-Cruz and Cox both claimed individual conference championships. FZN will host the first ever girls wrestling district tournament this weekend (2/1 - 2/2). The top three finishers at each weight will advance to the state meet.

Boys Basketball

the varsity boys recently finished 2nd at the FZN Invitational held last week. The Panthers defeated both Francis Howell North and Priory to advance to the finals where they fell to the top-ranked class 4 team in Missouri that Sikeston Bulldogs. The Panthers are 7 - 9 thus far on the season, but have won 3 of their last 5 contests. Grant Rapplean has led the Panthers in scoring this year with a 10.3 ppg. average. Mujtaba "Moosh" Alkahakdi also averages in double digits for the Panthers. KJ Lee rounds out the trio of top Panthers scorers with a 9.7 ppg. average. Rapplean, Alkahaldi, and Kyle Bampton were all placed on the FZN Invitational's "All-Tournament" team. The Panthers play host to Fort Zumwalt East tonight at 6:30 pm before traveling to Oakville on Thursday (1/31) and Washington on Friday (2/1).

Girls Basketball

The varsity girls currently stand at 13 - 4 on season. The Panthers have scored notable victories over district rival Fort Zumwalt West and highly regarded Troy this season. They have been consistently ranked as one of the top ten large schools in the area by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. The girls have been led by the play of senior Dajah Robinson, who averaged 12.8 points per game and 8.4 rebounds per game. Robinson, a four-year varsity starter, is closing in on 100 points for her career. The girls host Fort Zumwalt East tonight (1/29) at 5:00 pm and Fort Zumwalt South at Wednesday (1/30) before completing the week on the road at Washington this Friday (2/1).
