Announcements and Important Events
The FZN girls swimming and dive team is off to a great start this season. The lady "Swim Cats" recently placed 2nd in their own invitational meet held this past weekend at the St. Peters Rec-Plex. Prior to competing at the FZN Invitational, the Panthers won top honors at the Zumwalt Quad, a meet that features all four of the district's high schools. This was the first time the Panthers have finished as one of the top two teams at the meet. The victory at the Zumwalt Quad was also a first for a vastly improved Panther swim program. At the FZN Invitational, two individual swimmers and one diver claimed first place medals to aid the Panther team effort. Those winning gold medals include: Nadia Wuest (Diving), Gwen Raziq (200 Freestyle) and Sydney Kelsey (100 Breastroke). Raziq finished with a time of 2:02.78 in the 200 freestyle breaking the school record that had previously stood for 22 years! The Panther 400 Freestyle relay team, a team composed of: Jordan Brown, Averi Meade, Sydney Kelsey, and Gwen Raziq, also captured gold at the event. Each swimmer who placed in the top four earned a medal at the meet. Other Panthers earning medals included: Maddie Watters (4th - Diving), Gwen Raziq (2nd - 5o Freestyle) and Averi Meade (2nd - 100 Freestyle, 4th - 100 Backstroke). The 200 Freestyle relay team (Sydney Kelsey, Averi Meade, Jordan Brown, and Gwen Raziq) also finished 2nd.
So far this season the Panthers have had several swimmers achieve state consideration status. The Panthers hope to continue their strong season as they approach the stretch run. Their overall record in dual meet competition currently stands at 8 - 2. This week the Panthers play host to Francis Howell Central (1/8), before traveling to Pattonville (1/11) for a tri-meet with host Pattonville and St. Charles West.
