Announcements and Important Events
The Fort Zumwalt North football team captured their 5th straight district title with an impressive 43 - 18 victory over McCluer North at a frigid Robert Fisher Stadium last Friday night. With the victory, the Panthers have now advanced to the quarterfinal round of the MSHSAA Class 5 playoff bracket. The Panthers will once again face Columbia: Battle High School. The two schools have met in the playoffs 4 of the past 5 seasons. The Panthers won the most recent contest between the two schools in dramatic fashion, winning on a last second field goal that sent the Panthers to their first "Show-Me" Bowl two seasons ago. The Battle Spartans defeated the Panthers in both the 2014 and 2015 seasons.
Against McCluer North, the Panther offense rushed for an impressive 403 yards despite playing on a slippery snow covered field. Izayah Hudnut led all Panther rushers with 110 yards and a touchdown, while teammates: Joel Hilliard (105 yards rushing), Izaiah Hartrup (85 yards rushing - 1 touchdown), and Cario Payne (56 yards rushing - 1 touchdown) also had strong performances for the Panthers. Jaylin Vaughn also played a pivotal offensive role, as the Panthers often turned to Vaughn in short yardage situations. Vaughn netted 47 rushing yards on just 8 carries. He also scored 3 touchdowns on the night. Hilliard also completed 5 of 8 passes on the night for a total of 69 yards. Grand Latina was the leading receiver for the Panther as he snagged 4 catches for 54 yards.
On defense, the Panthers were led by Jaylin Vaughn (12 tackles), Shaun Hall (7 tackles) and Max Martin (6 tackles). Izayah Hudnut and Kamden Bynum each recorded an interception for the Panthers.
The Panthers will travel to Columbia for the quarterfinal game with Battle this Friday night (11/16). Kickoff is schedule for 7:00 pm.
