The FZN girls swimming and diving team recently completed the regular season portion of the 2017 - 2018 schedule. The lady "Swim Cats" finished the season on a seven meet winning streak to finish the season with a 7 - 4 overall record. The streak included victories over district rivals Fort Zumwalt South and Fort Zumwalt East. The "Swim Cats" have had a number of individuals stand-out this season. Senior Captain Michaela Russ, the defending conference champion in the 100 breaststroke, has once again produced a strong season for the Panthers. She has earned state consideration times in both the 50 freestyle and 100 breaststroke. Russ is also a member of two relay teams. Russ stated, "The key to the success of the team is that each team member is working towards the same goal." "Everyone is shooting for a strong finish at the conference meet." The Panthers hope to qualify a number of individuals for the state meet. In addition to Russ, Freshmen Gwen Raziq has also earned state consideration times in two individual events: the 50 and 500 freestyle. Other Panther swimmers that have stood out this season include: Freshmen Averi Mead, who has performed well in the relay events, Senior Hannah Simonds in the backstroke, Senior Cicely Berzack in multiple stokes, and Junior Jordan Brown who's specialty is the fly and backstroke. The Panthers also have two divers, Senior Dani Smith and Sophomore Nadi Wuest, who have continually turned in impressive performances on the spring board. The pair hopes to hit the state consideration mark at the conference meet.
The lady "Swim Cats" will next compete at the GAC North/Central meet scheduled for February 6 - 7 at the St. Peters Rec-Plex. The swimming competition will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday. The diving competition is scheduled for Tuesday.
