The FZN Mock Trial team is eagerly anticipating their 2018 season - the preparations for which are already underway! The FZN Mock Trial team competes as a part of the Missouri Mock Trial Competition, sponsored by the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis (BAMSL.org). The Missouri High School Mock Trial competition was founded by BAMSL in 1979 and is BAMSL's most established program. The program is supported by the St. Louis Bar Foundation and the Missouri Lawyer Trust Account Foundation. Mock trials are structured like real courtroom trials and follow the same rules and procedures, so students learn first-hand how the legal system works and what roles judges, lawyers, juries, and witnesses play in the court system. The competition also helps students develop and improve their public speaking and critical thinking skills.
This year's case for the students at FZN is a civil trial focusing on artistic expressions and intellectual property rights. This year's team leaders include: Caleb Fick, Alex Pohlman, and Brian Shields. The Panthers have a new lawyer on the team for 18': bass-guitar phenom Morgan Hopkins. Tori Allinger, Taylor Hopkins, John Ehrhard and others look forward to taking this small team with a big heart to Clayton, MO for the regional competition dates in January and February.
FZN Mock Trial meets every Wednesday at Fort Zumwalt North High School. The team is sponsored by Mr. Tony Bertram, who encourages any FZN student into speech, debate, action, or considering a career in law to take a look at Mock Trial.
